A Lexile measure between 200L and 300L means a child can read text with very short sentences, common sight words, and strong picture support — with growing independence.
What to look for in books at this level
- Short, declarative sentences
- High-frequency sight words throughout
- Repeating patterns and predictable structures
- Pictures that clarify any unfamiliar word
- Stories no longer than 32 pages
